Bouchard hiring could lead him to bigger things with Canadiens

On Thursday, Montreal Canadiens named coach Lauel Raul, his partner of the American Hockey League, Joel Buschar.

The 44-year-old Bouchard is doing well in Sylvain Lefevre, who was fired at the end of the regular season after six years of work. It was also announced that the assistants of Lefevre Donald Dufreve and Nick Carrier will not return.

Bouchard left as co-owner, president, general manager and coach of the Blaineville-Boisbrand Armada of the Quebec Majors of the Junior Hockey League to accept a missile work that one day could lead to coaching or management work with the NHL club.

Bouchard said that he had not yet thought that he was far ahead.

"After our assessment, we came to the conclusion that Joel was ready to take a step as a head coach on a professional level," says Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin. "His experience at the younger level in Quebec, as well as in the international arena with Hockey Canada makes him an excellent coach who can develop great young players.

"He also has a strong knowledge base of junior players from all over Canada. We are confident that he will bring a dynamic approach to the organization of the Rocket. "

The Canadiens also announced that Larry Carrier will no longer serve as general manager of Rocket, but will remain as director of personal staff and will remain a senior hockey adviser for the Canadiens.

Hiring Bouchard follows the announcement on April 27 of Dominique Ducharma as an assistant coach of Canadiens. Bouchard was part of the management team, in which Ducharm became the head coach of the Canadian Junior World Championship, which won the silver medal in 2017 and gold in 2018.

They also trained with the Montreal Juniors before Bouchard assembled a property group with former NHL players Danny Brier, J.S. Giguere and Ian Laperriere, as well as business partner Pierre Hendron and media company Videotron, to buy the franchise and move it to Buisbriand north of Montreal in 2012.

Bouchard served as GM last seven years and added duties as head coach in 2014-15. He was appointed coach of QMJHL this season after finishing first in the regular season, only to lose in the final round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

The former defender has always been the organizer. During the lockout of 2004-05 he found a sponsor and collected a successful charity trip to Quebec by a team of NHL players.

Some consider him to be the future GM in Montreal, as well as the Duschard can become Claude Julien's successor as a coach.

Bergevin decided to leave GM's work open in Laval, although he said he was "very pleased with Larry Carrier's work."

Bouchard played 13 seasons of the NHL with Calgary-Flame. Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars, Phoenix Coyotes, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and New Yorkers. He was called up by Calgary in 1992.

His playing career was pursued by trauma and illness, including vertebral meningitis.

Montreal Canadiens Set Up For Their Best Draft Ever

Montreal Canadiens goes to the off-season with an abundance of sediment. This gives them the opportunity to create a franchise for the next decade. Montreal Canadiens suffered from a miserable season 2017-18. The victory in 29 games during the long 82nd game schedule is not ideal. In fact, the team only had twice less wins, dating back to the 1963 season. One of them was in 1994-1995, when the lockout reduced the NHL calendar to 48 games. Even in 2012-13, although they played 48 games, they were able to win 29 games. Hell, in the 1940s there were only 50 or 60 game schedules, but they could still win 30. Going out in first place in 29 of 82 games should not happen in the era of NHL parity. The bright side of horror in the NHL is that you are rewarded with the best choice in the NHL project. Montreal did not get the best choice, but should choose the third in the annual tournament. They are not only ranked third, but also general manager Mark Bergewin has been collecting fees for ...

The Canadiens are in position to have their best draft haul in years

As the playoffs of the National Hockey League continue, and the teams are playing to raise the venerable Stanley Cup, the iconic Montreal Canadiens are planning next season. The team with most of the Stanley Cup championships in the history of the NHL - 24 - Montreal did not even claim the playoffs in what was a disaster of the 2017-2018 season for the Canadiens. As fans in Montreal are surprised that it did not go so late with their favorite team, just like the supporters of Canadiens in Sault Ste. Marie - including the self-proclaimed no. 1 fanatic Habs, the legend of local radio Lou Turco. It's been a while since Montreal won its last Stanley Cup. It would have been in 1993, when the Canadiens, supported by the goal of the play-off of the most valuable player Patrick Roy, won three overtime games to drive out the "Los Angeles Kings" in the Stanley Cup finals.
